Google has announced that it will use the infrastructure of Google Play Services to upgrade
Android phones with the upcoming COVID-19 contact tracing program it is developing in partnership with Apple. This will ensure that more Android phones actually receive the updates, and
also make sure they're available on Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher phones.
Google says its update program applies to both phases of the Bluetooth communication tracing process — the initial API release due next month, and the next step, which will see the APIs integrated into the Software. The firms will only say the second stage will arrive "in the coming months."
