Some Pixel devices not saving snapped photos

A new Google Camera bug is causing some Google Pixel devices to occasionally not save photos. The issue in particular occurs when a user snaps a photo and then immediately locks the screen or switches to another app. In some cases, the photo will appear in the thumbnail preview at first, but will later disappear. Some reports have noticed that while a photo may not initially appear, it will show up about a day later.

The issue was first noticed by users of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, but it’s been confirmed that the same bug is affecting Pixel and Pixel 2 devices as well. Additionally, there have been a few reports of the bug from users of the Galaxy S9, Moto Z2, Moto E4, and Nexus 5X. It’s unclear whether the issue is limited to Pixel phones or if it can affect all phones using the Google Camera app.

A few users have found that it seems to be related to HDR processing. Turning off HDR or waiting to close the camera until HDR processing is complete seems to keep the issue at bay.

Google has yet to comment on the situation, but we’ll keep you updated when it does.
