Podcasts have become popular over the last two years, and seems that Google is looking to spruce up its Play Music service with the first podcast of its own.
The new show is called “City Soundtracks,” and as the title suggests, it’s an in-depth look at a particular musical artist, the city they live in, and the music that has shaped their experience over the years. At the time of publication there are only three episodes, and there is no word on whether or not there will be more or when they might be produced. The show is hosted by Hrishikesh Hirway.
The first episode revolves around Kelhani and her experiences with music and growing up in Oakland, California. The second episode is about Big Freedia, “the Queen of Bounce,” and her experiences in New Orleans. Finally, the third episode tells the story of Britt Daniel and Jim Eno, two members of the rock band Spoon. That episode takes place in Austin, Texas.
The episodes bridge interviews and specific playlists, telling interesting stories of artists, their experiences, and the music that inspires them. If you’re a fan of music culture, or the artists taking part in the podcasts, they’re certainly worth a listen.
