Google Assistant's new update will let you send money to friends

While Google I/O‘s proper keynote happened yesterday, the developer event is still going on, so there is still news trickling out. The latest is in regards to Google’s mobile payment option, Android Pay.

Today, Google announced that Android Pay is expanding. The mobile payment service will launch in Brazil, Canada, Russia, Spain, and Taiwan “soon.” There’s no exact dates to circle on the calendar just yet, but for anyone living in those markets who has been waiting to use Android Pay, you now know that it’s coming.

On top of that, Google Assistant is soon going to support the ability to send and receive payments. To send money you’ll need to have a Google Home smart speaker or an Android device, and you’ll need to have a debit card attached to your Google Account. Once that criteria is met, you’ll be able to send money or receive it. And that includes using Google Assistant to say something like, “Send Mike $10 for lunch.”
