Google’s March security update is live but there is a Bad news for all Nexus 6 owners because user will miss some important feature of device.
Several Nexus 6 owners report that after they installed the March security update, SafetyNet became broken on their device. SafetyNet enables apps to check if your phone has an unlocked bootloader, custom ROM, or similar tweak, and if it does, apps that require a device be secure will break. One of those apps is Android Pay.
The bad news is that Nexus 6 owners that haven’t unlocked their bootloader or rooted their phone are having SafetyNet failures after installing the March security update.
With the news of this SafetyNet issue, Google has pulled the Android 7.1.1 March update from its factory image and OTA pages. The official Google Nexus account on Twitter has acknowledged the issue and says that the Nexus team is looking into it.
This is a pretty significant issue for the Nexus 6, as it breaks features for folks that haven’t performed any tweaks or anything like that on their phone. The good news is that Google is looking into the problem, and hopefully they get it solved soon so N6 owners can go back to using features like Android Pay.
