Finally something good from Blackberry after the launch of its KEYOne, here it comes with another Phone.
The BlackBerry Aurora is now official. The new device is the product of a joint venture called BB Merah Putih, which is producing the hardware in Indonesia and licensing software from BlackBerry. As a result, the Aurora’s build of Android 7.0 includes BlackBerry software features like the Hub productivity suite and DTEK privacy app.
Other features of the BlackBerry Aurora include a 5-inch 1280×720 display and an 8-megapixel camera on its face as well as a 13-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus around back. Inside the Aurora’s body lives a Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, a microSD slot, and a 3000mAh battery.
Another highlight feature of the Aurora is its dual SIM slots. This is notable because the Aurora is the first BlackBerry smartphone to include dual SIM slots, a feature BlackBerry says is included because many Indonesians carry two phones, one for work and one for personal matters.
The BlackBerry Aurora is now available for pre-order in Indonesia at a price of IDR 3,499,000 ($262 USD). It looks like a nice mid-range smartphone, offering a simple design with a textured back for added grip, plenty of RAM, and a smaller display a decent resolution. There’s no mention of any release outside of Indonesia at this time, though, so those of us outside the country will just have to ogle images of the Aurora.
