Instagram today unveiled its newest effort, what it calls IGTV. It’s designed to promote long-form video content and, as you might have already guessed, the focus will be on vertical videos. Instagram is launching a dedicated IGTV app, but the videos that are published for the new platform will also be visible in the standard Instagram app.
Instagram normally allows for a video to be up to one minute in length. IGTV videos can will be up to one hour. And when you open up the app, video is going to start playing right away. You will be able to do the standard social media things like commenting and liking videos, and you’ll be able to quickly share them with your Instagram contacts as well.
IGTV will have dedicated sections, including For You, Popular, Continue Watching, and Following, which you will be able to swipe through when you want to watch something new. Creators will have their own dedicated channels, too.
IGTV will start rolling out globally for Android and iOS users over the next few weeks.
